Who is at Risk for Stroke?

Risk Factors That Cannot Be Changed:

• Age

• Gender

• Race/ethnicity

• Heredity - family history of stroke

• Genetic or congenital conditions, particularly vascular abnormalities.

Risk Factors That Can Be Changed

• High blood pressure (hypertension)

• Heart disease

• Diabetes

• High blood cholesterol levels

• Cigarette smoking

• Heavy alcohol consumption

• Illicit drug use

• Head and Neck Injuries

• Infections
