Alternative and Integral Therapies Magnetic Therapy for Insomnia and Other Sleep Disorders A magnetized mattress pad is found to promote a restful sleep. A double-blind clinical study was done in Japan in 1990 with magnetized mattress pads in three hospitals. The 431 subjects were tested and observed closely for any side effects. The magnetized pads used 104 magnets, each with 750-950-gauss strength. More than 70% of the patients had results within five days. The improvements in back and lower back pain ranged from 68.49 to 92.04%; in lower limb pain from 66.82 to 97.47%; in insomnia from 76.82 to 97.47%; in fatigue from 70.64 to 94.98%. These results are quite amazing. It is also interesting that the improvement occurred in such a short time. And unlike drug therapy, there were no side effects. The US-FDA has recently allowed claims of efficacy of cranioelectrical stimulation for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. The low emission therapy (LEET) Symtonic device, which creates a feeble magnetic field in the region of the hypothalamus, has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment for insomnia, based on FDA-designed trials at two leading University Sleep Laboratories. The device was also proven effective for anxiety in similar crossover studies at Harvard Medical School.
