Hydrotherapy for Cold

Hot baths and drinking plenty of water are two of the best and simplest water treatments for a cold. Fill your tub with comfortably hot water (about 102 to 104F. Use a regular thermometer to check) and submerge as much of your body as possible. Soak for about 15 minutes. Towel off, jump into a warm bed and rest for at least one hour or longer (be sure to keep yourself warm, with your arms and legs well-covered). Use this treatment one to three times every day until your symptoms subside.

If, in the early stages, the cold is accompanied by a chill, add 10 drops of Lavender and 5 drops of Cinnamon oil to the warm bath at night.

More stimulating oils such as Eucalyptus or Tea Tree (10 drops of each) can be used in baths earlier in the day.

Herbal steam treatments are a soothing way to treat the head congestion that can come with a cold. Heat a large pot of water to boiling. Then remove it from the heat source and drip a few drops of essential oil into it. (Eucalyptus, sage and balsam are particularly good for cold congestion.) Drape a bath towel over your head and breathe deeply for five to ten minutes. Do this two or three times a day until your symptoms subside.

Keep the feet warm at all times during sickness and as a preventive measure. Low body temperature decreases resistance to viruses and bacteria, while heat burns up and destroys the virus.

To warm feet, soak them for five to ten minutes in a hot mustard bath. Dissolve 1 tbsp. mustard powder in 4 cups of hot water.

A five, minute hot mustard pack on the chest is excellent to bring down fever, eliminate toxins and speed healing. Apply once. If needed, repeat every other day for a week.
