bulletDon't have intercourse more than three times a week. More frequent intercourse may reduce the number of viable sperm in the semen.
bulletTime intercourse to coincide with ovulation, which usually occurs midway between menstrual periods.
bulletAfter intercourse, spend ten to fifteen minutes quietly in each other's arms before getting up.
bulletIf it has been determined that the female partner's body is producing antibodies that are damaging or destroying sperm, the male partner should use a condom for six months. With no contact with the antigen-the sperm- the antibodies the woman's body produces may be lulled into inactivity. After this rest period, time intercourse (without a condom) to coincide with ovulation.
bulletExercise regularly but moderately. Maintaining a high level of physical fitness increases the possibility of conception. For both men and women, the ability to reproduce is dependent on a healthy body. Avoid excessive exercise, however.
bulletInfertility itself can be extremely stressful, but as much as possible, do try to avoid stress. Stressing your body with intensive exercise can cause a decrease in fertility. Mental and emotional stress have the same impact. Try to eliminate the stress in your life as much as possible.
bulletAvoid tobacco and alcohol. In men, both smoking and alcohol consumption have been shown to lower sperm count.
bulletA man should not wear underwear that holds his testicles close to his body. Sperm require cool temperatures to remain active. Loose-fitting boxer shorts made of a natural, breathable fiber such as cotton permit air to circulate and help keep the temperature within your testicles down. For the same reason, a man wishing to become a father should avoid hot baths, hot tubs, jacuzzis, saunas, and steam baths. These indulgences may reduce stress and create a sensual mood, but they can also reduce your ability to impregnate your partner.
bulletDo not take any drugs except those prescribed by your physician.
bulletA balanced diet is important. Do not consume animal fats, fried foods, sugar, or junk foods. Do eat pumpkin seeds, bee pollen, or royal jelly.

Caution: Bee pollen may cause an allergic reaction in some people. Start with a small amount, and discontinue use if a rash, wheezing, discomfort, or other symptom occurs.

bulletEating, half a dozen oysters, lean red meat, and crab may help. They all contain a high level of zinc, which is essential for motility and production of sperm. Alternatively, take 5rng of zinc per foot of height before sleep at night.
bulletFollow the recommendation for the diet given elsewhere.
bulletThe ulcer medications cimetidine (Tagamet) and ranitidine (Zantac) may decrease sperm count and even produce impotence.
bulletStrict adherence to a gluten-free diet has enabled some previously sterile men to become fathers.
bulletIf you have any suspicion you may have contracted a sexually transmitted disease, see your doctor promptly so that treatment, if necessary, can be begun in a timely fashion.
