Basically, biofeedback consists of being hooked up to a machine that measures certain biological reactions-including body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, skin temperature, sweat, and blood flow through the hands and feet and gives you feedback about them, in the form of a sounding buzzer, a flashing light, or the biofeedback therapist's reaction as he or she reads your printout. The monitors enable you to see how your body systems react to stress or the lack of it. This information can help you to recognize when you are stressed and enable you to learn to reduce tension in yourself.
By getting feedback on apparently involuntary processes, human beings learn to control these processes at will.
