Dosage Recommendations

If you are prone to infections, take 10,000 IU of vitamin A daily.

During an infection, brief high doses of vitamin A-50,000 to 100,000 IU for a couple of days-can strengthen epithelial cells and resistance in both adults and children.

If you're planning to have a baby or are pregnant, don't take supplements with more than 5,000 IU of vitamin A.

Vitamin A toxicity generally doesn't occur unless someone consumes and stores more than l,000,000 IU in a two- to three-week period.
