Rescue Remedies for Anthrax
Natural Sources for Selenium
Foods containing significant amounts of selenium include wheat germ, Brazil nuts, other nuts, oats, whole-wheat bread, bran, red swiss chard, brown rice, turnips, garlic, barley, and orange juice, broccoli, mushrooms, cabbage, celery, cucumbers, onions, and radishes. Other non-vegetable sources for selenium are: brewer's yeast, fish, and organ meats.
However, these foods won't give you an adequate intake if the soil they were grown in was poor in selenium. Unfortunately, most of us have no way of knowing what kind of soil our food was grown in, so supplements may be a good idea. Here is a breakdown on the selenium content of various foods:
|Fresh-water and salt-water fish (red snapper, salmon, swordfish, tuna)
Organ meats (beef liver and kidney)
|Nuts (especially Brazil nut)
Medicinal mushrooms (reishi, shiitake)
