Who Gets Panic Disorder?
In the United States, it is estimated that 1.6 percent of the adult population, or more than 3 million people, will suffer from panic disorder at some time in their lives. The disorder typically begins in young adulthood, but older people and children can also be affected. Women are affected twice as frequently as men. People of all races and social classes can have panic disorder. However, cultural differences affect how individual symptoms are expressed.
